Soft Cries of Her Child

from Whaling Wails by Wailing Whales

/

lyrics

Sighing she speaks so softly
To the neighbors in the morn
They ask and she replies
Twenty years since he was born
But to his dear mother
He is still but a babe
And now he's out there on the sea
To save this town from misery

And as his poor dear mother
Every night when she goes to bed
She still hears that baby crying
Its so clear there in her head
And every single morning
She looks out to the sea
But she doesn't see anything
Her sons gone to save you and me

And every night in her dreams
she hears the soft cries of her child
and every day when she wakes
She hears them yet again
'my babies gone to his death, of this i am sure'
she says to herself more and more

and as the waters calmly
come in and out in tide
the ocean has it's own laws
of which man has to abide
it will help you or break you
but that you cannot decide
when you're out on the ocean
it is the judge and you are tried

Curled up next to the fire
The boys mother she sits alone
while her son was once a child
now he is grown
And while most grown boys run off
they usually come back home
but for her son she knows
that now there is none

And every night in her dreams
she hears the soft cries of her child
and every day when she wakes
She hears them yet again
'my babies gone to his death, of this i am sure'
she says to herself more and more

While the town worships and may praise him
and this of course makes her proud
she cannot help but look out
but only see the clouds
but to herself she thinks
maybe just one more day
and she cries again for she knows
there is no other way
